Welcome into my home studio with The Image Interview!

An awesome concept and interesting look into artists and their environment. Was a little self conscience at first having so many pictures taken of me and my home/workspace but it didn't take me long to get comfortable as the shoot was pretty laid back. The tough part was actually doing the writing!

I hope you dig it! It was super rad!

Does anyone still use deviantart? I'm sure there are millions but I certainly don't... as much as I used to anyway. Things like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have made sharing on deviantart seem like an ancient form of communication. Perhaps DA needs a better app for mobile users?

Maybe I'm wrong and speaking for myself but nonetheless I still use and NEED deviantart to post high resolution pieces for my portfolio. Question, If facebook allowed for high resolution image posting would we still be here?

What are your thoughts? Where are you these days?

Anyhow, you can probably most easily find me on Twitter or Facebook these days. [link]

WONDERCON 2012

Anaheim Convention Center, 800 West Katella Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92802. Mar 16-18th.

I will be signing, sketching and taking commissions from Artists Alley. We are at Table AA-019!

I've never actually been to a show in Anaheim before so I'm quite excited. This one promises to be a big one though, especially being that Wondercon is the second largest convention on the west coast next to San Diego. Not to mention it's run by the same people...it's gonna be RADNESS.

I'll be bringing with me some new full color art prints and some portfolio reproductions as well!

In terms of commissions they will be first come first serve on list but limited to only 1-2/day. I'll be doing sketches all weekend though!

Hope to see you all there!!! :)

ARTISTS HELP JAPAN: TORONTO RAISES $20,000
Toronto comic artists and DJs band together for Japanese Quake & Tsunami Relief

---

TORONTO - Artists Help Japan: Toronto is proud to announce that their 12 hour live art/DJ event on April 17th was an extraordinary success, raising $20,000 towards Tsunami and Quake relief in Japan.

Spearheaded by a consortium of Toronto illustration studios, the Artists Help Japan: Toronto event was the local iteration of a charity movement begun by Dice Tsutsumi at Pixar. The Toronto edition featured live art and DJ music, a silent auction and dozens of artists selling commissioned drawings, which raised about $18,000 over the 12 hour event. Event organizers UDON Entertainment have stepped in with an additional $2000 donation to help bring the final total to $20,000, with all proceeds being donated to the Canadian Red Cross

The organizers of the event would like to thank all of the talented artists, illustrators, and DJs who donated their time and expertise, and the hundreds of Torontonians that came out in support of this event. The organizers will continue their various fundraising efforts over the weeks and months to come, including a series of special auctions featuring artworks donated by artists at the fundraiser! Look for details on these auctions in the next week.

Some words of thanks from the organizers:

Erik Ko, founder of UDON Entertainment: "I have a lot of friends and colleagues in Japan who were affected by this unfortunate event. I felt a real need to try and lend a helping hand to the people there and I really appreciate so many people supporting us! Thank you so much!"

Bobby Chiu, head of Imaginism studio: "People were incredibly generous with their money that day. It was truly touching to see a city come together to support the people of Japan."

Alvin Lee, comic artist on Street Fighter and Birds of Prey: "It was awe inspiring to see the outpour of support and compassion from Toronto's Art and Music scene. To give back to a country that has influenced so many of today's artists, including myself - I felt like it was the least I could do."

Krystle Tabujara, Library Services Coordinator for The Beguiling: "Having recently travelled to the Pacific Rim with my partner, I felt an obligation to be a part of such a great cause. It was an honour to be working alongside some of Toronto's most talented artists."

Jim Zubkavich, writer/creator of Skullkickers from Image Comics: "All of us involved with this event feel a deep connection to Japan and we're ecstatic that so many people came out to show their support. To the artists, musicians and donators - Thank you everyone!"

Chris Butcher, manager of The Beguiling and Lead Organizer of the Toronto Comics Art Festival: "Japan has been an inspiring, near-mythical presence in my life since I was very young, and their culture and traditions have had a huge influence on my writing and career. Coming together with so many like-minded people to give something back has been similarly inspiring, and I'm humbled by the generosity of our volunteers, artists, DJs, and the hundreds of attendees who came to the event. Thanks everyone and please, if at all possible, don't stop giving."

The organizers would also like to thank the many volunteers and supporters who helped make the event a success, including: all of the wonderful artists and publishers who donated art and other items for our silent auction; Jeff at Imaginism; Michael, Akiko, Magda, Marc, Andrew, and Shane who helped out on the day-of; Peter Birkemoe and The Beguiling; Joe Saturnino and the entire staff of Revival.

Had a cool project over the holidays, which was to turn 4 athletes into superheroes including a jam cover page for ESPN RISE Magazine! This hit the stands a couple of days ago, so if you've got the chance you should definitely cop one! They were supercool to work with as they gave me all the creative freedom in the world to work with, only restriction was to keep the color ways similar to their highschool uniforms. I was like,"Go to town? Um...ALRIGHT!" :P

Some pictures of the magazine from my facebook album:

Here's two HQ images of Nick Vena and Michael Gilchrist. I'll post the rest of the HQ athletes, including the Cover page in the coming days!

One of the TRUE angels on this Earth has made a request via Twitter, she's an inspiration! Alvin has been a long time fan for many obvious reasons but primarily because she never ceases to inspire people. And besides, she DID do this NYC anthem and Alvin secretly dances to this track when nobody is looking!!! LOL!: [link]

HERE'S WHAT SHE WROTE:

"I'm looking 4 an Amazing Illustrator! some1 w/a mix of fantasy, reality & Cartoon. Show me some heat at **Email is now hidden** ;-)"

We were so shocked by this that Alvin has personally submitted his own entry to the above address! He said this, "OMG, I'm sending one in RIGHT NOW!!! Call in the cavalry!" Even if you don't think you will get selected you should definitely try, because we KNOW she will appreciate that! :)

**I'VE BEEN INFORMED THAT AS OF NOW, ALICIA IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS, GOODLUCK TO YOU ALL!!! -ALVIN**

Wow wow wow guys!

I've finally reached the pinnacle of 10,000 watchers on DA, my life is now complete.

It truly is an honor, I'm flattered and it really has been a game changer for me since I joined Deviant Art. Some of you have been following my work since my inception into comics 13 years ago, some of you have been following since 3 minutes ago. Either way it's super cool and it really speaks volumes in terms of the beauty of technology and the intricacies of social networks today. I've had people approach me at conventions saying they've never collected a comic in their life but they follow my work here, that's really exciting stuff to me!

In the past, artists that I admire would never be this readily accessible. Now, all I have to do is push one button to watch them.

And I sincerely thank you for pushing yours.

Cheers,

Alvin

I'll also be doing live critiques between 10:30-11:15am and 3:15-4:00pm everyday at the SCHOOLISM [link] BOOTH. If you have any portfolios you would like me to review, make sure you bring them to me there!:)

In terms of commissions, I will only be taking a limited amount of full-board commissions/day depending on my schedule, approx only about 2-3 per day. I will have a waiting list of 3 people in case something frees up towards the end of the show but there will be no promises, try and get your requests in early!

However, as always I will be taking head sketches for the full duration of the show, any character you wish as long as you can provide some reference! Or else you'll just get my crappy rendition of it!

In terms of Gnomon DVD's I have very limited supply of only 2 copies this year (forgot to re-stock) sorry guys!

Hey all, check out this quick video I made! Pretty much did everything on this video, except cook. It's not the best of quality but I'm proud of it nonetheless considering I put this together with very limited tools and very little time!...And besides it's supposed to look viral and YouTubey anyways...

This is my good friend Chris Kanka, he's an amazingly talented chef at WOO Buffet / Lounge and the guy's totally hilarious, totally deserves to be on TV. As soon as I saw the spot on Food Network I just had  to do this for him! I sincerely hope he makes it on the show and with this video I believe he's got a decent shot at it...well, obviously.
